Despite an amazing attitude and an unequaled zest for life, family and rallysport, Jake Himes (pictured below in a Charlie Cotterman supplied pic that features Jake's twin sons) succumbed to cancer in 2007.  My thoughts and prayers, as well as those of the entire RealAutoSport family, are with Jake's family, friends and fans.  Godspeed Jake - you truly will be missed.

Godspeed Jake!

Below find a Ronnie Arnold pic capturing Matt Johnson's reaction to my 'Jake Himes Do' in Portland in April 2007. Jake was in the midst of chemo and radiation therapy and I wanted to support him spiritually as best I could so I went for 'to the scalp' for the first time since Air Force basic training over 36 years ago.

Logging eight finishes from eight starts in national-level events the Stillwater, Oklahoma-based duo - supported by RealAutoSport, LLC - logged what is no doubt the most unprecedented rookie season in US stage rally history!

((Where it all began ...))

FMX superstar “Cowboy” Kenny Bartram launching rally career in Missouri woods with RealAutoSport.

Stillwater and Sand Springs, OK – “Cowboy” Kenny Bartram (http://www.cowboykenny.com/), the most winning rider in freestyle motocross (FMX), is following his friend and fellow motocross star Travis Pastrana’s lead by venturing into the extreme autosport world of performance rally competition at the Rally-America Rally in the 100 Acre Wood (http://www.100aw.org/) in Salem, Missouri on 24 - 25 February.  Bartram will be driving the championship-winning RealAutoSport, LLC Volkswagen New Beetle owned by fellow Oklahoman Mike Halley while looking forward to competing later in the season with a Vermont Sports Car prepared Subaru WRX.

Commenting on his plans for the rally Bartram said, "I just want to finish the rally and learn as much as possible about the sport.”  Co-driving for Bartram will be his cousin and pit bike maven, Dennis Hotson, who recently recorded an 86.6 foot jump on one of the small bikes.  During the event Halley and Crew Chief Trey Teegarden will tend to the world’s first New Beetle rally car which features KC HiLiTES High Intensity Discharge rally lamps and Silverstone Tyres.

The Rally-America Championship (http://www.rally-america.com/) is the nation’s premier performance rally series with uniquely varied venues coast-to-coast. Teams compete flat-out for hundreds of miles over closed-to-the-public forestry roads separated into a series of tests called special stages. A codriver keeps the driver apprised of turns, jumps, hazards and other obstacles using the route book and a hundredth-reading odometer.  All the 2005 events were televised on the Outdoor Life Network (http://www.olntv.com/).

The RealAutoSport, LLC Rallye Team is supported by KC HiLiTES (http://www.kchilites.com/), Tulsa ’s Rally Distributing (http://www.rallydist.com/) and Mary Jane Halley, CPA.  The RealAutoSport, LLC website, http://www.realautosport.com/, is sponsored by VirtualMovingTargetRacing.com and maintained by webmaster Sean Figgins.

2005 ...

With Oregonian Tina Warner aboard the StudBug hustled through the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood on 25 & 26 February 2005.  Despite the 'black eye' and running with a broken strut all Saturday it took a road penalty to keep the "ProStock" StudBug off the podium in the competitive "Funny Car" Group 5 ClubRally National Championship competition.  Outgunned?  What's new?

Pic by Mark Karpinski. Thanks Mark!

Our 2004 wasn't very active with just two trips to Camp Maxey (check out the Irish article by first-time codriver Conor Twomey - HERE) and one to Colorado's Cog ProRally near Steamboat Springs but 2005 got off to a great start when Oregonian and Alcan Winter Rally champ Kala Rounds climbed into the Production-legal StudBug-turned-Sno*Tortoise to help us capture two Group 5 runner-up finishes at Rally-America's inaugural stage rally weekend, the SNO*DRIFT Rally headquartered in Atlanta, Michigan.  Click HERE to see more of our January weekend.

The 2003 SCCA ProRally season will long be remembered more for what the rally community lost than what any one team gained or won.  The American rally community came together, came of age and pressed on with the pursuit of our automotive passions despite the tragedy at the Oregon Trail ProRally.  The members of the RealAutoSport, LLC Rallye Team mourn the loss of Subaru Rally Team USA's Mark Lovell and Roger Freeman.  We extend our deepest sympathies to Mark and Roger's families, friends and fans.

2003 certainly was a banner one for the RealAutoSport, LLC Rallye Team.  I was nearly speechless when bestowed with the greatest honor of my racing life - the Jack Pim Memorial Award of Excellence - during NEOkla Region's annual awards banquet.  Jack was such a special friend and racing brother that it's hard to put into words just how special this award is to me.

Award-wise, 2003 was a very special year indeed!
